The Book of Hajj-09a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna and Ibn Bashshar narrated to us, both saying: Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, and Shu'bah narrated to us, saying: I heard Abu Jumrah al-Dab'i say:
I performed Tamattu' but the people dis- couraged me to do so. I came to Ibn 'Abbas and asked him about it. He ordered me to do so. I came to the House (Ka'ba) and slept. I saw a visitant in the dream who said: 'Umra is acceptable and so is the Hajj performed for God's sake. I came to Ibn Abbas and informed him about that Which I saw in the dream whereupon he said: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest This is the Sunnah of Abu'l-Qasim (the Holy Pro- phet) (ﷺ).

The Shaykh : This hadith provides evidence for seeking reassurance through a good dream in attaining the correct path. Similarly, in clarifying an error, a person may have made a mistake while believing he had hit the mark, and then see in his dream something indicating that he was wrong.
This is among the blessings of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) upon the servant, and His means of reassuring him, that he sees in his dream what confirms what he did.
For this reason, Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said "Allahu Akbar" in astonishment and joy at the blessing of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) upon him, as he was the one ordering people to perform tamattu' (combining 'Umrah and Hajj with a break between them), while most people in his time forbade it.
