The Book of Hajj-10a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: And Abu al-Rabi' al-Zuhri narrated to me, and Hammad, meaning ibn Zayd, narrated to us, from Ayyub, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions arrived in Makkah, and the fever of Yathrib had weakened them. The polytheists said: "A group is coming to you tomorrow who have been weakened by the fever and have suffered greatly from it." So they sat in the area near the Black Stone, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered them to perform the rambling walk (ramal) for three circuits and to walk normally between the two corners, so that the polytheists would see their strength. The polytheists then said: "These are the ones you claimed had been weakened by the fever; these are stronger than so-and-so." Ibn 'Abbas said: The only thing that prevented him from ordering them to perform the rambling walk for all the circuits was his desire to be lenient with them.
