The Reciter: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions. Imam al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
Chapter: The saying of Allah the Exalted:
[He is] Knower of the unseen, and He does not disclose His [knowledge of the] unseen to anyone عالم الغيب فلا يظهر على غيبه أحدا
[Al-Jinn 72:26]
Indeed, Allah [alone] has knowledge of the Hour وإن الله عنده علم الساعة
[Luqman 31:34]
And He sent it down with His knowledge وأنزله بعلمه
And no female conceives nor does she give birth except with His knowledge وما تحمل من أنثى ولا تضع إلا بعلمه
[Fatir 35:11]
To him [alone] is attributed knowledge of the Hour إليه يرد علم الساعة
[Fussilat 41:47]
. Yahya said: “The Apparent over all things with knowledge, the Hidden over all things with knowledge”.

The Shaykh : This chapter heading is a heading for affirming the attribute of knowledge for Allah (Mighty and Majestic). The knowledge of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is established and it has come in multiple forms. And it, I mean knowledge, is the perception of the known as it is. This is knowledge. So when we say “perception,” we exclude simple ignorance. And when we say “as it is,” we exclude compound ignorance, because ignorance, in their view, is of two types: simple ignorance, which is the absence of knowledge, and compound ignorance, which is when a person is ignorant and is unaware that he is ignorant. For this reason, it is called “compound” because it is composed of two ignorances: ignorance of the reality and ignorance of his state. I will give an example to clarify this. We asked a man, “When was the Battle of Badr?” He said, “The Battle of Badr was in Ramadan in the second year.” How do you describe this respondent? As a scholar, because he mentioned a matter as it is. We asked another man and said to him, “When was the Battle of Badr?” He said, “It was in the fifth year of the Hijrah.” This is compound ignorance. We asked the third man and said, “When was the Battle of Badr?” He said, “I do not know.” This is simple ignorance. So the Lord (Mighty and Majestic) is All-Knowing, meaning He perceives the knowns as they are. Then, Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) is Eternal and Everlasting. This is one point. The knowledge of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) is comprehensive and encompassing of everything, in general and in detail, even the movement of ants at any time in the times of the world; He knows it in detail. He knows where the ant places its step in detail. He knows everything in general and in detail, because Allah created everything, and the Creator must be All-Knowing, as He said:
Does He who created not know, while He is the Subtle, the Acquainted? ألا يعلم من خلق وهو اللطيف الخبير
[Al-Mulk 67:14]
Thirdly, the knowledge of Allah was not preceded by ignorance, nor is it followed by forgetfulness, as Musa said:
[Moses] said, "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord in a record. My Lord neither errs nor forgets." علمها عند ربي في كتاب لا يضل ربي ولا ينسى
[Taha 20:52]
So the knowledge of Allah is vast, comprehensive, eternal, and everlasting, not preceded by ignorance and not followed by forgetfulness.
