The Shaykh’s review of the previous lesson

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy. Before we begin, we have previously established that it is permissible to swear by the attributes of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). As for swearing by the verses of Allah, there is a distinction. What is it?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : This is not permissible. What is the difference? But what is the difference? I am not asking what is the example of that. Why is it permissible with this and not with that?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : All right, the difference is that the cosmic verses are created, and it is not permissible to swear by what is created, unlike the legislative verses, for their attribution is to Allah. All right, but if one swears by a descriptive attribute of Allah, what do you say? Swearing by a descriptive attribute? It is permissible, for example.
The student: Allah’s rising above His Throne.

The Shaykh : No, this is an action attribute.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Yes, correct. If this descriptive attribute is applied to the Essence, such as the Face of Allah, then it is permissible; otherwise, it is not. For example, the Hand of Allah; it appears that it is not permissible for a person to say, “By the Hand of Allah, I will do it,” or “By the Foot of Allah, I will do it.” Yes.
The student: The difference?

The Shaykh : The difference is clear. If the Face is intended to mean the Essence, then it is swearing by Allah Himself. As for the Hand, the Foot, the Eye, and the Forearm, they are not applied to Allah.
All right, Abu Ma’mar narrated to us.
