The reader: Dawud ibn 'Amr al-Dhib narrated to us, Nafi' ibn 'Umar narrated to us from Ibn Abi Mulaikah, who said:
I wrote to Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) asking him to write a book for me and to hide it from me. He said, "A sincere son; I choose matters for him and hide them from him." He said, so he called for the judgments of 'Ali and began to write some things from them. When he passed over a matter, he would say, "By Allah, 'Ali did not judge this except that he must have erred." كتبت إلى ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما أسأله أن يكتب لي كتابا ويخفي عني فقال ولد ناصح أنا أختار له الأمور اختيارا وأخفي عنه قال فدعا بقضاء علي فجعل يكتب منه أشياء ويمر به الشيء فيقول والله ما قضى بهذا علي إلا أن يكون ضل
