The questioner : Welcome, His Eminence Shaykh Muhammad.

The Shaykh : Welcome to you.

The questioner : His Eminence, Shaykh Muhammad, the first letter we received is from listener Ibrahim Muhammad Sh. He says in his letter: We have learned the fate of the men in Paradise, that they have wives of the Houris, and he means the Muslim men, but what is the fate of the women in Paradise? Do they have husbands or not?

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, says regarding the bliss of the people of Paradise:
And you will have therein whatever your souls desire, and you will have therein whatever you request [or wish] (32) As accommodation from a [Lord who is] Forgiving and Merciful." ولكم فيها ما تشتهي أنفسكم ولكم فيها تدعون نزلا من غفور رحيم
[Fussilat 41:31-32]
And He, the Exalted, says:
And therein is whatever the souls desire and [what] delights the eyes, and you will abide therein eternally. وفيها ما تشتهيه الأنفس وتلذ الأعين وأنتم فيها خالدون
[Az-Zukhruf 43:71]
It is well known that marriage is among the most intense desires of the souls, so it is realized in Paradise for the people of Paradise, whether they are male or female. Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, marries the woman in Paradise, or in Paradise He marries her to the husband who was her husband in this world, as Allah, the Exalted, said:
Our Lord, and admit them to gardens of perpetual residence which You have promised them and whoever was righteous among their fathers, their spouses and their offspring. Indeed, it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. ربنا وأدخلهم جنات عدن التي وعدتهم ومن صلح من ءابائهم وأزواجهم وذرياتهم إنك أنت العزيز الحكيم
[Ghafir 40:8]
And if she had two husbands in this world, she will be given the choice between them on the Day of Resurrection in Paradise. And if she did not marry in this world, then Allah, the Exalted, will marry her to what pleases her eye in Paradise. So the bliss in Paradise is not limited to males; rather, it is for males and females alike. And among the bliss is marriage. But someone might say: Allah, the Exalted, mentioned the Houris, who are wives, but He did not mention husbands for the women. We say: The wives were mentioned for the husbands because the husband is the seeker and the one who desires the woman, so the husbands were mentioned for the men in Paradise, and the husbands for the women were left unmentioned. But this does not mean that they do not have husbands; rather, they have husbands from the sons of Adam.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.
