And I do not think that many of the people who resort to the weak hadiths and unknown chains of narration we have described, and who rely on their transmission after knowing what is in them of weakness and defect, are doing so except that what drives them to transmit them and rely on them is the desire to appear numerous in that regard among the common people, and so that it may be said: How much hadith so-and-so has collected, and how many he has compiled in number, and whoever follows this path in knowledge and walks this road has no share in it, and he is more deserving of being called ignorant than of being attributed to knowledge.

The reader: "And I do not think that many of the people who resort to the weak hadiths and unknown chains of narration we have described, and who rely on their transmission after knowing what is in them of weakness and defect, are doing so except that what drives them to transmit them and rely on them is the desire to appear numerous in that regard among the common people, and so that it may be said: How much hadith so-and-so has collected, and how many he has compiled in number, and whoever follows this path in knowledge and walks this road has no share in it, and he is more deserving of being called ignorant than of being attributed to knowledge."

The Shaykh : This is correct, but it does not apply to all of them. Some of them may think that they are transmitting this weak hadith because it has a corroborating narration, and they want to strengthen it with that corroboration, or something similar. However, there is no doubt that what Muslim mentioned is that some of them may be driven by the desire to appear numerous, and so that it may be said: How much hadith he has collected, and how many hadiths he has. This one transmits a thousand hadiths, this one transmits two thousand hadiths, and this one transmits a thousand thousand hadiths, and so on. And Allah knows the intentions best. Yes.
