The reader: "So among this type of hadith scholars: 'Abd Allah ibn Muharrir, Yahya ibn Abi Unayzah, al-Jirah ibn al-Munhal Abu al-'Atuf, 'Abbad ibn Kathir, Husayn ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Dhamirah, 'Umar ibn Sahban, and those who are similar to them in narrating denunciated hadith. We do not turn to their hadith, nor do we occupy ourselves with it, because the ruling of the scholars of knowledge, and what we know of their methodology regarding accepting what a hadith scholar narrates uniquely, is that he must have participated with the trustworthy scholars of knowledge and memorization in some of what they narrated, and he must have been meticulous in agreeing with them. If that is found, and then he adds something after that which is not with his companions, his addition is accepted. As for one whom you see directing himself to someone like al-Zuhri in his nobility and the multitude of his companions who are memorizers and precise in his hadith and the hadith of others, or to someone like Hisham ibn 'Urwah, and their hadith is extensive and shared among the scholars of knowledge, and their companions have transmitted their hadith from them with agreement among them in most of it, yet he narrates from them, or from one of them, a number of hadith that no one of their companions knows, and he is not one who has participated with them in the authentic of what is with them, then it is not permissible to accept the hadith of this type of people, and Allah knows best."

The Shaykh : Because it is said: If this had been authentic from them, their companions who were constantly with them would have narrated it. The fact that their trustworthy companions who were constantly with them do not narrate this hadith, and a person who is not among those who were constantly with them comes and narrates multiple hadith from them, we do not accept it, because we say: What is the cause that prevented their companions who were constantly with them from narrating this hadith? A person comes who is not known to have sat with them except once or twice, and then he narrates hadith from them?! Muslim says: This is a cause that prevents accepting the report of this person, even if his status is unknown, because if he is weak, that is known, so even if he narrates something uniquely that does not contradict, it is not accepted. But if his status is unknown, or if he is trustworthy but his sitting with these people is few, he (may Allah have mercy on him) says: It is not accepted. But this may be disputed, and it is said: If he is trustworthy and narrates something that does not contradict, it should be accepted. And if it is said: Why did their companions who were constantly with them not narrate it? We say: It is not necessary that because they did not narrate it, a trustworthy person did not narrate it. Is that clear, O University? Yes.
The student: What you mentioned, it appears that he mentioned it before this statement in the issue of one who agrees with the trustworthy ones in some of their hadith, then his addition is accepted.

The Shaykh : Yes, but this one did not agree with them at all. He narrated an independent hadith that their companions did not narrate. It is said: Where are they? Where are their precise companions who are eager to receive what these people speak of?! Yes.
