The Book of Faith-06b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna and Ibn Bashshar narrated to us, both saying: Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, saying: Shu'bah narrated to us, saying: I heard Qatadah narrating from Anas ibn Malik, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
None of you is a believer until I am dearer to him than his child, his father, and the whole of mankind. لا يؤمن أحدكم حتّى أكون أحبّ إليه من ولده ووالده والنّاس أجمعين
Sahih Muslim 44b
.

The Shaykh : His statement:
his child, his parents ولده ووالده
means that whoever is further removed from them is even more so, and the self is included in his statement:
and all of mankind والناس أجمعين
. Therefore, it is obligatory for a person to prioritize the love of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) over the love of his self, his father, his mother, and all of mankind. But does he prioritize his love over the love of Allah? No, it is not permissible to prioritize his love over the love of Allah, because our love for the Messenger of Allah is part of our love for Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And were it not that he is the Messenger of Allah, it would not be obligatory for us to love him with this love.
