The reader: "The Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said in Volume 23, page 345: 'As for praying behind one who is declared a disbeliever due to his innovation from among the people of desires, there is disagreement regarding the very Friday prayer behind him. And whoever says that he is a disbeliever orders the prayer to be repeated because it is a prayer behind a disbeliever. But this issue is related to declaring the people of desires disbelievers, and people are confused in this issue. Two narrations have been reported from Malik regarding it, two statements from al-Shafi'i, and two narrations from Imam Ahmad as well. Likewise, the theologians mentioned two statements from al-Ash'ari regarding it, and the majority of the imams' schools of jurisprudence detail the matter. The reality of the matter is that a statement may be disbelief, so the statement of declaring its holder a disbeliever is made, and it is said, 'Whoever says such-and-such is a disbeliever.' But the specific person who said it is not declared a disbeliever until the evidence is established against him, the evidence whose abandonment leads to disbelief.'"

The Shaykh : "Abandoning it" means abandoning the evidence. That is, if the evidence is clarified to a person, but he abandons it and turns away from it, then it is he who is declared a disbeliever for abandoning it.
