The Shaykh :"And there is no doubt that the superior generations, the best of whom are the Companions, are the most eloquent people in the life of the hearts, the love of good, and the realization of beneficial knowledge, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 3651 And this superiority encompasses their excellence in everything that brings one closer to Allah the Exalted, whether in speech, action, or belief. Then, if we were to assume that they were ignorant, then if we were to assume that they were ignorant of the truth in this matter, the ignorance of those who came after them would be all the more certain", is that correct or not? I mean, if someone were to say, it is possible that they were ignorant, it is possible they did not investigate, it is possible they did not strive to reach this, we say: if they were ignorant, then those who came after them are all the more ignorant. Why? "Because knowledge of what is affirmed for Allah in terms of names and attributes, or what is negated from Him, is only received through the path of the Message, and they are the intermediary between the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Ummah. And on this assumption, it would follow that no one would have knowledge in this matter, which is clearly impossible".
Correct. I mean, if someone were to be stubborn and say, "I do not agree with you that the Companions must have been knowledgeable about the names and attributes of Allah. I do not agree with this. I say it is possible that they were ignorant." Of course, this is stubbornness. But on the assumption that we concede this, what contradicts this? If the Companions were ignorant, then those who came after them are more ignorant, more ignorant without a doubt. Because on the assumption that the names and attributes of Allah are known, from where are they received? From the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). And the path that leads to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in the matter of knowledge, who are they? The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). From where does it reach us? We did not catch up with the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), so it is not possible for news in the matter of the names and attributes of Allah to reach us except through the path of the Companions. So on this, if we say that the Companions were ignorant, it would follow that we are also more ignorant of it. And in that case, there would be no knowledge in the matter of the names and attributes of Allah with the entire Ummah, from its beginning to its end, and this is clearly impossible. Praise be to Allah.
And therefore, those who insult the Companions, and may Allah protect us, from among the sects of the Ummah, they insult the Companions. What is their purpose with this insult, O brothers? What is the purpose, whether they intended it or not? What is the result of this insult? The result is casting doubt on the entire Shari'ah, because the Shari'ah did not reach us except through the path of the Companions. So if we insult the Companions, or accuse them of open sinfulness, or of disbelief and apostasy, and may Allah protect us, it means that we have no established Shari'ah, since the Shari'ah does not come except through them. For this reason, this religious innovation is, and may Allah protect us, one of the greatest religious innovations in denying the Shari'ah. Yes.
The best people are those living in my generation, and then those who will follow them, and then those who will follow the latter
