Reading from the author's words, with commentary and collation of manuscripts: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade slaughtering with the nail

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade slaughtering with the nail, explaining that it is the knife of the Abyssinians, just as he explained that the tooth is a bone. The jurists differed on this matter. The people of opinion held that the reason for the prohibition is that slaughtering with the tooth and nail resembles strangulation, or is a place where strangulation is likely to occur, and the strangled animal is forbidden. Based on this, they permitted slaughtering with extracted teeth and nails, because slaughtering with detached, sharp instruments does not involve strangulation. The majority absolutely prohibited this, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) excluded the tooth and nail from what causes blood to flow, so it is known that it is a sharp instrument with which slaughtering is not permissible. If the reason had been that it causes strangulation, he would not have excluded it. A likelihood is only considered in place of reality if the wisdom is obscure or not regulated; but if it is clear and regulated, it is not.
Also, it contradicts the explanation of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) "
.

The Shaykh : He means the Hanafis, yes.
The reader: "It contradicts the explanation of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stated in the hadith. Then these scholars differed: is slaughtering with other bones prohibited, acting on the generality of the reason? There are two opinions in the madhhab of Ahmad and others. According to the three opinions, his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
and the nail is the knife of Ethiopians. وأما الظُفر، فمُدى الحبشة
Sahih al-Bukhari 5498
after his saying:
I will inform you about that سأحدثكم عن ذلك
implies that this description—that it is the knife of the Abyssinians—has an effect on the prohibition: either it is the reason, or evidence for the reason, or a description of the reason, or its evidence. The Abyssinians have long nails, so they slaughter with them, unlike other nations. It is possible that he forbade it because of their imitation in what is specific to them"
.

The Shaykh : His saying: that their nails are long. The apparent reason is that they keep them long. When a nail grows long, its tip curves and hardens, becoming like the tip of a spear. They did this, and it was specific to them, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The knife of the Abyssinians مُدى الحبشة
Then, there is a contradiction with the fitrah, which is cutting the nails. If slaughtering with the nail were permitted, it would lead to abandoning the fitrah by keeping the nails long in order to slaughter with them. But now, if children catch small birds and slaughter them with their teeth or nails, what do you say?
The student: Is it permissible?

The Shaykh : Is it permissible? They are children, yes. Does it fall under the hadith?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : Okay, fine.
