Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : ...provided that none of its three attributes has been altered by impurity.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : The change in smell and color can be perceived without touching the water... without the effect of the smell and color appearing. So, do we say that it is permissible to taste the water to determine its impurity?

The Shaykh : Yes, as a test for it. One should taste it as a test for it.

The questioner : And if he finds in it...

The Shaykh : As the scholars said, if one suspects whether a substance is intoxicating or not, he drinks it, and there is no harm in that.

The questioner : Well, what if he finds it impure?

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : If he finds it impure, is it sufficient to spit out the water?

The Shaykh : He spits out the water and washes whatever it touched.
