The second question of Fatwa No. ( 20374 )
Q 2: The saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Does this mean that if water reaches two qullahs and a large amount of impurity falls into it, it does not become impure? We ask for clarification. .
A 2: The meaning of the hadith mentioned in the question is: if water reaches two qullahs or more, it is generally not affected by the impurity that falls into it; due to its large quantity and its not being affected by the impurity because it is consumed within it. This is provided that its color, taste, or smell is not changed by this
impurity. It is not the intention of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that it does not become impure absolutely. Rather, if pure water has its color, smell, or taste changed by the falling of impurity into it, it becomes impure, even if the water is large in quantity. The scholars have reached consensus on this. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
