It is reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding some acts of worship that he varied the dhikr; is it permissible to combine them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you. Some of the reported acts of worship are obligatory to complete, meaning one does this once and that once, as we mentioned regarding the opening supplication in wudu. Sometimes it is stated that they are combined, such as the reported dhikr... So what is the criterion for this, given that it is not reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he combined them?

The Shaykh : Yes, no, he would say this and he would say that; it is possible to combine them, except for the opening supplication. When Abu Hurayrah asked him:
I said to the Prophet (ﷺ) "May my parents be sacrificed for you! What do you say in the pause between Takbir and recitation?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I say, أرأيت سكوتك بين التكبير والقراءة ما تقول ؟ قال : أقول كذا وكذا
Sahih al-Bukhari 744
and he did not mention more than one type.

The questioner : What is the criterion?

The Shaykh : The criterion is this: the default is that if combining is possible, they are combined, and if it is not possible, they are not combined.
