Explanation of the Book of Prayer-10

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He said: "From Abu Juhaym ibn al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If one who passes in front of a man who is praying knew the responsibility he incurs لو يعلم المار بين يدي المصلي ماذا عليه
Sunan Abi Dawud 701Sahih (Al-Albani)
"
In my opinion,
of the sin من الإثم
it appears that this word did not become authentic; it is not established in *the two Sahihs* "
knew the responsibility he incurs, he would stand still forty (years) rather than to pass in front of him ماذا عليه لكان أن يقف أربعين ، خيرا له من أن يمر بين يديه
Sahih Muslim 507a
. Agreed upon, and the wording is al-Bukhari's. And it appeared in al-Bazzar from another chain:
Forty autumns. أربعين خريفاً
"
if لو
This is a conditional sentence, as evidenced by the fact that it has a conditional verb and its response is the verb of the condition. What is it?
He knows يعلم
And its response is:
it would be better for him to stand لكان أن يقف
It has multiple meanings, as mentioned by the author of *Mughni al-Labib*, Ibn Hisham (may Allah have mercy on him). And his saying:
in front of the one who is praying بين يدي المصلي
one who passes in front of a man who is praying المار بين يدي المصلي
Sunan Abi Dawud 701Sahih (Al-Albani)
Passing is moving from right to left or from left to right. This passing in front of him, in front of the one who is praying, the scholars differed on it. It was said: its reference is to custom. It was said: it is the distance of three cubits from his feet. It was said: it is the distance of his prayer place, meaning from his prayer place, the closest being to his feet. This is in front of him, and what is beyond that is not in front of him. And the closest of the opinions is that what is in front of him is the space between him and the place of his forehead in prostration. And his saying:
he would prefer to stand still for forty لكان أن يقف أربعين خير له
Sunan Abi Dawud 701Sahih (Al-Albani)
This is the response to the condition, and
to stand أن يقف
is the subject of *kana* and
better خيرا
is its predicate. The intended meaning is that his standing for forty would be better for him. The forty was not specified as forty what? Forty days, or a month, or a year. In the wordings of *the two Sahihs*, it was not specified. But in *al-Bazzar* from another chain:
Forty autumns. أربعين خريفا
And autumn is the year, because autumn is one of the four seasons of the year: summer, spring, and winter. List them in order, starting with the cold that contradicts the normal. They start with the season of spring. That is why you find calendars start with Aries, because it is the first season of spring. So, spring, summer, autumn, winter. The year is described by autumn because it is one of its seasons, and expressing the whole by a part is linguistically permissible and common.
rather than pass in front of him خير من أن يمر بين يديه
Sunan Abi Dawud 701Sahih (Al-Albani)
Meaning: in front of the one who is praying. And this is by way of example, meaning if he were to stand for this period, forty years, it would be better than passing. And it is known that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) knows that no one will stand what? Forty years. Even the one who is praying will not remain for forty years. But this is from the category of exaggeration in prohibiting passing in front of the one who is praying.
