Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “When they came at you from above you and from below you”

Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Ahzab: 10] “From the top of the valley and from the bottom of it, from the east and from the west” They came from the east and from the west. Quraysh came from the north-eastern direction, and Ghatafan and the Jews of Banu Qurayzah came from the south-western direction. Thus, they came from above the Muslims and from below them. As I told you a moment ago, the trench extended from the eastern Harrah to the western Harrah, so the entire northern side was now protected by the trench. They came from above them and from below them so that they would be like the two jaws of a lion, closing in on the city. This was their plan, but Allah is All-Aware of what they do.
