How do we reconcile the statement that the names of Allah the Exalted are innumerable with the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Did you hear the question? He says: How do we reconcile the statement that the names of Allah the Exalted are innumerable with the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Indeed, Allah has ninety-nine Names, whoever counts them shall enter Paradise. إن لله تسعة وتسعين اسما من أحصاها دخل الجنة
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3508Sahih (Darussalam)
?
And the answer to that is that we say: The answer to that, or regarding that? If the questioner is seeking information, say “the answer regarding that,” and if he is raising an objection, i.e., contradicting, say “the answer to that.” Therefore, “the answer to that” is in the context of refuting someone who objected to you, and “the answer regarding that” is in the context of answering someone who sought guidance. So now, regarding the brother’s question, do we say “the answer regarding that” or “the answer to that”? We say “regarding that,” out of good intent. Otherwise, if someone came wanting to object, we would say “the answer to that.” But now we say the answer regarding that is that the speech of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is like the speech of Allah; it never contradicts. So if it is established from him that he said:
or which You kept exclusive to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen with You أو استأثرت به في علم الغيب عندك
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 18:73
, we know that among the names of Allah are some that cannot be reached or comprehended, because what Allah has kept to Himself cannot be known by us. Therefore, it is necessary for us to say that the meaning of His saying:
Indeed, Allah has ninety-nine Names, whoever counts them shall enter Paradise. إن لله تسعة وتسعين اسما من أحصاها دخل الجنة
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3508Sahih (Darussalam)
Thus, the phrase “whoever enumerates them” is a description of the word
names اسما
, and is not an independent, new sentence. The meaning of
Indeed, Allah has ninety-nine Names إن لله تسعة وتسعين اسما
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3508Sahih (Darussalam)
is described by the fact that whoever enumerates them will enter Paradise. He has other names, but He selected ninety-nine from them, so if you enumerate them, you will enter Paradise. And what is the meaning of enumerating them? Does it mean to read them verbally? No, enumerating them means knowing them verbally and in meaning, and worshipping Allah in accordance with them, i.e., knowing their wording and meaning and worshipping Allah the Exalted in accordance with them. Yes.
