A question regarding the criterion for prioritizing fear and hope in a person's life.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The student: ... Do you have a new opinion on combining fear and hope?

The Shaykh : No, it is not new. This is regardless of the situations that befall a person, just as we say that something is permissible, yet it may be obligatory or it may be forbidden. So when we consider which opinion is stronger, we look at the opinion in terms of the opinion itself. However, situations may arise for a person such that when he intends to commit a sin, the aspect of hope may prevail, or the opposite. As for the opinion in terms of the opinion itself, analogical reasoning dictates that we prioritize the aspect of hope when we perform an act of obedience, and we say that Allah the Exalted did not guide us to obedience except that He will accept it from us:
Call upon Me; I will respond to you. ادعوني استجب لكم
[Ghafir 40:60]
For this reason, some scholars said: "Whoever is guided to supplication, let him be glad of the response". And when he intends to commit a sin, it is known that if the aspect of fear prevails, he will be deterred. But there are situations that arise for a person involving something else. As for the incidental situations, we say that a person is the doctor of himself. But as for the opinion in terms of the opinion itself, this opinion is closer to analogical reasoning.
