Discussion on the meaning of mutashabih in the Qur'an.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Now, here Allah divided the Qur'an into two categories, but in another place He made it a single category. Allah said:
has sent down the best statement: a consistent Book wherein is reiteration. The skins shiver therefrom of those who fear their Lord نزل أحسن الحديث كتابا متشابها مثاني تقشعر منه جلود الذين يخشون ربهم ...
[Az-Zumar 39:23]
And in another verse He said:
Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the wise Book آلمر تلك آيات الكتاب الحكيم
[Yunus 10:1]
And He said:
a Book whose verses are perfected and then presented in detail كتاب أحكمت آياته ثم فصلت
[Hud 11:1]
He did not leave out mutashabih. We say: this is also among the mutashabih, is it not? Because how can the Qur'an be described with attributes that appear to contradict each other? We say: those firmly grounded in knowledge know that there is no contradiction. They say: the mutashabih by which the Qur'an is described, when not accompanied by the muhkam, refers to perfection, generosity, and guidance. Yes, in terms of perfection, generosity, and guidance, it is mutashabih. All its verses are mutashabih; they are all perfect in eloquence, perfect in reporting, perfect in command and prohibition. So it is mutashabih in terms of perfection, quality, rulings, reports, and so on. When "muhkam" is mentioned without mentioning "mutashabih," it means precise; precise, with no contradiction or conflict, neither in the report nor in the ruling. When rulings and mutashabih are mentioned, the rulings are understood in one sense and the mutashabih in another. The rulings are understood as what? As clarity, when rulings and mutashabih are mentioned. When rulings and mutashabih are mentioned, each becomes the counterpart of the other. So if it is mutashabih, what is its counterpart? The clear, yes, the clear and distinct. So
in it are verses [that are] precise منه آيات محكمات
[Ali 'Imran 3:7]
means clear and distinct proofs, and
and others are mutashabih وأخر متشابهات
its counterpart is the opposite. Is that clear now? Yes, good.
