How to respond to those who disagree.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes, this is an error. I think that first, we must know who this person is. Is he someone known for religious innovations, evil, and open sinfulness? If so, he may deserve [a certain response]. But another man, whom we know has merely made a mistake—no, he is the first one with whom we should discuss the matter until we reach the intended goal for everyone, which is to know that the man has good intentions. If the man has good intentions, he will surely return to the truth. However, if we take one another as adversaries, this undoubtedly distances both sides, the one who rebukes and the one who is rebuked, because people will divide. Not everyone knows the truth, and not everyone trusts a single person. Yes.

The Shaykh : I mean, if you advise a person and he guides himself, but then he returns to his misguidance, you must start over, because some people, if they do not have someone to help them maintain their steadfastness and commitment, may deviate—may Allah protect us from that. In any case, if the connection is cut off, the original state, if you wanted him to accept [the truth], is that he will remain in acceptance. But if you know that he has deviated, then that is upon him.
