The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: << وإني مرسلة إليهم بهدية فناظرة بم يرجعوا المرسلون >

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
And in it is also:
But indeed, I will send to them a gift and see with what [reply] the messengers will return." وَإِنِّي مُرْسِلَةٌ إِلَيْهِمْ بِهَدِيَّةٍ فَنَاظِرَةٌ بِمَ يَرْجِعُ الْمُرْسَلُونَ
[Surah al-Naml: 35].
The following is derived from this verse:
First: The intelligence and shrewdness of this woman.
Second: It is derived from this that testing and examination are permissible, and that this is not considered deception, if a person wants to test another with something. This is not considered deception because he wants to ascertain his state, and there is no objection to this.
And in the verse is also the third benefit, which is: acting based on circumstantial evidence, because she wanted to send this gift to test Sulayman's intention: does he want only money, is this gift sufficient for him, or does he want them to submit, in which case this gift would not benefit him and he would not stop his first request, which is
Be not haughty with me but come to me in submission [as Muslims].' " أَلَّا تَعْلُوا عَلَيَّ وَأْتُونِي مُسْلِمِينَ
[Surah al-Naml: 31].
So in it are three benefits. Did something like this occur? Yes. In the story of Sulayman with the two women who sought his judgment regarding the son of one of them. Two women went out of the city, and each had a son. A wolf ate the son of the older one, so they sought judgment from Dawud (peace be upon him), and he ruled that the existing son belonged to the older one, based on the fact that the younger one could give birth again. But when they sought judgment from Sulayman (peace be upon him), he said: This is not the ruling. The ruling is that we bring a knife and cut the child in half, so the older one gets half and the younger one gets half. The older one agreed to it being cut in half, did she not? Because she said: just as my son was destroyed, let her son be destroyed. But the younger one said: No, O Prophet of Allah, the child is hers.
So by that, it became known that the child belonged to the younger one, so he ruled in her favor. This is from the category of ascertaining the truth through circumstantial evidence, and there is no objection to it, and the judges used to do this.
So this matter of sending the gift to Sulayman (peace be upon him) is of this type, to ascertain his state, so the circumstantial evidence is acted upon.
