What should I say when I go to sleep?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What should I say when I go to sleep?

The Shaykh : When I go to sleep?

The questioner : Yes, I mean when going to sleep.

The Shaykh : Yes, you should say what the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribes. Among these, when you go to your bed, you should recite the Verse of the Throne, which is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
[Al-Baqarah 2:255]
Then you should blow on your face, your head, and as much of your body as you can, blowing with your hands and wiping with them as much of your body as you can. You should also say:
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One, قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
[Al-Ikhlas 112:1]
and the two chapters of protection (al-Mu'awwidhatayn). You should also say:
It is with Thine (grace) that I place my side (upon the bed) and it is with Thee that I take it up (after sleep), and in case You withhold my being (if You cause me to die), then grant pardon to my being, and if You keep (this process of breathing on), then protect it with that with which You protected Your pious servants.
Sahih Muslim 2714a
And you should also say:
Sunan an-Nasa'i 924Hasan (Darussalam)
thirty-three times, and so on, of what is well known. If you wish to add to this, read the book "Al-Adhkar" by al-Nawawi, the book "Riyad al-Salihin", and the book "Al-Kalim al-Tayyib" by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, especially the authentic parts verified by Shaykh al-Albani. These are well-known books, praise be to Allah. Yes.
