What is your opinion of the statement by some people: abandoning deeds while holding belief, with disagreement on the issue of abandoning prayer being included in the definition of faith, is the statement of the Murji'ah?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Dr. Saleh.

The questioner : May Allah bless you. Some say that abandoning deeds, with disagreement on the issue of abandoning prayer, is included in the definition of faith. They say that whoever says this is the very statement of the Murji'ah, but with a modern concept?

The Shaykh : By Allah, O beloved, and the words are for you all, we do not go beyond what came in the Qur'an and the Sunnah. So what is reported to be disbelief is disbelief, and what is not reported to be disbelief is not disbelief. And as came in the hadith of Abdullah ibn Shuqayq:
the companions of God’s Messenger did not consider the abandonment of any good deeds but prayer to be infidelity كان أصحاب النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم لا يرون شيئاً من الأعمال تركه كفر غير الصلاة
Mishkat al-Masabih 579
This is an explicit text containing the consensus of the Companions that abandoning prayer is disbelief, and other than that is not disbelief. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you, ... regarding the one who says this, the issue of abandoning all deeds while believing that it is included in the definition of faith.

The Shaykh : This is an error that some people with impulsiveness utter. Just as if they see a scholar known for goodness who disagrees with the people of the Sunnah on an issue of the attributes, they say he is an Ash'ari. Likewise, some people demolish [the position] saying Ibn Hajar is an Ash'ari and *Fath al-Bari* must be burned, and the like of that. I seek refuge in Allah. And this is from error, and it is obligatory to weigh with justice.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : That is enough, the order is there are no questions.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : No, it does not contradict. Yes.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : We do not accept.
The student : ... this is little, if you open the door for questions for five minutes.

The Shaykh : Do you agree with this?
The student : Yes. Consensus.

The Shaykh : Consensus? I say whoever transmitted the consensus is...
Okay, extend for them as suggested to me.
