And we bear witness to Paradise for everyone for whom the Book and the Sunnah have borne witness, whether by name or by description: so as for bearing witness by name

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
When the author (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned that among the principles of the people of the Sunnah and the community is the belief that Paradise and the Fire are true and that they currently exist, and that they will never cease to exist, and he mentioned the evidence for that, he then mentioned bearing witness for a person to Paradise or to the Fire. Do we bear witness for a person that he is among the people of Paradise, or that he is among the people of the Fire?
He says: Bearing witness to Paradise or the Fire is only for the one for whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has borne witness, or for whom it has come in the Qur'an.
He said: "And we bear witness to Paradise for everyone for whom the Book and the Sunnah have borne witness, whether by name or by description". Yes. That is to say, the witness may be by name, such that one bears witness for a specific man that he is in Paradise. Among that is the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, regarding the witness by name:
(14) So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. (15) None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. (16) Who had denied and turned away. (17) But the righteous one will avoid it - (18) [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself فأنذرتكم نارا تلظى لا يصلاها إلا الأشقى الذي كذب وتولى وسيحنبها الأتقى الذي يؤتي ماله يتزكى
[Al-Layl 92:14-18]
For it is by the consensus of all or most of the exegetes that it was revealed concerning Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him).
(17) But the righteous one will avoid it - (18) [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself (19) And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded (20) But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. وسيجنبها الأتقى الذي يؤتي ماله يتزكى وما لأحد عنده من نعمة تجزى إلا ابتغاء وجه ربه الأعلى ولسوف يرضى
[Al-Layl 92:17-20]
.
It may also be said that among the evidence for that is the saying of the Exalted:
and he said to his companion, "Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us." إذ يقول لصاحبه لا تحزن إن الله معنا
[At-Tawbah 9:40]
For it is by the consensus of the Muslims that the one intended by "his companion" here is who? Abu Bakr. And the companion of the Messenger who does not leave him in hardship or ease is the most deserving of people to be borne witness to as being in Paradise.
But the witness is by description.
He says: "So as for bearing witness by name: bearing witness to Abu Bakr, 'Umar, 'Uthman, and 'Ali".
I told you a moment ago about Abu Bakr to establish the evidence of the Qur'an bearing witness for him to Paradise.
As for the Sunnah, its matter is apparent, there is no doubt in it, but did the Qur'an bear witness for him to that or not?
He says: "Bearing witness to Abu Bakr, 'Umar, 'Uthman, and 'Ali, and the like of them whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) named specifically". Like whom? The ten who were given glad tidings of Paradise, Thabit ibn Qays ibn Shammās (may Allah be pleased with him), for whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) bore witness to Paradise, 'Ikāshah ibn Miḥṣan, for whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) bore witness to Paradise, Sa'd ibn Mu'adh, for whom the Messenger bore witness to Paradise, and Bilal. The important thing is that they are many.
Those whom the Messenger, may prayers and peace be upon him, named specifically, we must bear witness for them by their names to Paradise. Do we say "must" or do we say "permissible"? We must, in order to affirm the truth of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
