The questioner : ... in Sahih Muslim.

The Shaykh : That...?

The questioner : In the hadith of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : ... with the wording
When he stood to offer an obligatory prayer كان إذا قام إلى الصّلاة المكتوبة
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1023Sahih (Darussalam)
.

The Shaykh : Strange!

The questioner : Yes, al-Tirmidhi said: This is a hasan sahih hadith. And al-Tirmidhi and al-Nasa'i (may Allah have mercy on them both) narrated it.

The Shaykh : Yes, I mentioned to you during the explanation that in the night prayer, Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) placed it within the hadith of the night prayer. It seems the author, unless the manuscripts differ, for sometimes manuscripts differ. I will give you an example: Shaykh al-Islam denied the combination of Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim, saying: This is not established.
Suhaib (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "When the inhabitants of Jannah enter Jannah, Allah, the Glorious and Exalted, will say to them: 'Do you wish me to give you anything more?' They will reply: 'Have You not made our faces bright? Have You not brought us into Jannah and delivered us from the Hell?' And Allah will remove the Veil. The (dwellers of Jannah) will feel that they have not been awarded anything dearer to them than looking at their Rubb." [Muslim] . Allah, the Exalted, says: "Verily, those who believe and do deeds of righteousness, their Rubb will guide them through their Faith; under them will flow rivers in the Gardens of Delight (Jannah). Their way of request therein will be Subhanaka Allahumma (Glory to You, O Allah!) and Salam (peace, safety from evil) will be their greetings therein (Jannah)! and the close of their request will be: Al-hamdu lillahi Rabbil-'Alamin [All the praises and thanks are to Allah, the Rubb of 'Alamin (mankind, jinn and all that exists)] ." (10:9,10) كما صلّيت على إبراهيم وعلى آل إبراهيم كما باركت على إبراهيم وعلى آل إبراهيم
Riyad as-Salihin 1896
He said: This is not established in the authentic collections, yet it is found in al-Bukhari. You cannot say the man forgot, for everyone forgets in any case. But to be certain of the negation in this manner, unless the manuscripts differ. Either the manuscript that came into the hands of al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar contained the night prayer, or it was his assumption that when he mentioned the hadith... of the night prayer, he said that Muslim indicated it was in the night. But in any case, may Allah reward you with good. This is a benefit, and the addition of the qualifier "obligatory"... Yes.
