Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Reciter: Chapter: What has been transmitted regarding the fact that deeds are by intentions, and that every person will have what they intended, encompassing faith, ablution, prayer, alms, pilgrimage, fasting, and rulings. And Allah the Exalted said:
Say, "Everyone works according to his own nature" قل كل يعمل على شاكلته
: according to his intention. And a man’s spending on his family, if he intends it as such, is charity. And he said:
But [it is] jihad and intention ولكن جهاد ونية
.

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. In this chapter, may Allah have mercy on him, he explained that deeds are by intentions, and al-hisbah means seeking reward; one intends the deed and seeks its reward from Allah (Mighty and Majestic). "And every person will have what they intended": meaning the deed they intended and the reward they sought.
"Encompassing faith, ablution, prayer, alms, pilgrimage, fasting, and rulings": all of these fall under the term faith, and they also fall under the generality of intention. Thus, what a person seeks in terms of faith is faith, because a person acting while believing in his heart that he is seeking reward from Allah is expressing faith in Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and faith in the reward.
