Explanation of the Book: The Beginning of Revelation, Faith, and Knowledge-07b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: Muhammad ibn Muqatil, Abu al-Hasan al-Marwazi, narrated to us: Abdullah informed us, saying: Shu'bah informed us from Qatadah from Anas ibn Malik, who said:
Once the Prophet (ﷺ) wrote a letter or had an idea of writing a letter. The Prophet (ﷺ) was told that they (rulers) would not read letters unless they were sealed. So the Prophet (ﷺ) got a silver ring made with "Muhammad Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)" engraved on it. As if I were just observing its white glitter in the hand of the Prophet.
Sahih al-Bukhari 65

The Shaykh : Allah is the Greatest. This also indicates that the Messenger writes letters and sends them, and it includes the adoption of a seal for every person in a position of responsibility, such as a governor, judge, minister, or president, and the like, so that matters are not confused. Nowadays, signatures have become widespread among people, and the signature has become the standard, while it is rare to use a seal. However, some people's signatures cannot be recognized unless the name is written. If the name is written, writing the name is easy for anyone, so perhaps a person would write the name "Zayd" and then sign with a signature from someone else if you did not know him before. Yes, but the seal is more precise. Therefore, it is recommended that in very important matters, a person should not rely on the signature alone, but should also seal it. In this hadith, there is the permissibility of making a ring of silver for men, whereas gold is not permissible. It also includes the permissibility of engraving it with what contains the name of Allah, such as if the name is Abdullah or Abd al-Rahman, there is no harm, because the engraving on the ring of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was "Muhammad, Messenger of Allah," with "Muhammad" at the bottom, "Messenger" in the middle, and the Noble Name above.
It also includes making a beautiful, clean ring, because it is seen, what? He said,The questioner : its whiteness. He said,The Shaykh : its whiteness and its shine in the hand of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).
