Chapter: Traveling in pursuit of knowledge,
And Jabir ibn 'Abdullah traveled a month's journey to 'Abdullah ibn Anis for a single hadith. ورحل جابر بن عبد الله مسيرة شهر ، إلى عبد الله بن أنيس ، في حديث واحد

The Shaykh : This athar
Jabir ibn 'Abdullah traveled to 'Abdullah ibn Anis for a single hadith. رحل جابر بن عبد الله إلى عبد الله بن أنيس في حديث واحد
might lead someone to ask: why did he travel a month's journey at that time, given the difficulty and hardship of travel? Did not 'Abdullah ibn Anis narrate it to him? Why did he not say, "So-and-so narrated to me from 'Abdullah ibn Anis"? The scholars said that the benefit of this is the elevation of the chain of narration. The elevation of the chain is because if he narrated from the one who narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Anis, the chain would be longer. But if he took it directly from him, the chain is shorter, and this is the elevation of the isnad.
