The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “Indeed, those who disbelieved will be called out, [saying], ‘The hatred of Allah is greater than your hatred of yourselves, when you were called to faith, but you disbelieved.’”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the clarification that the disbelievers will be rebuked on the Day of Resurrection with a rebuke that adds to their pain, as He said:
The hatred of Allah for you was [even] greater than your hatred of yourselves لمقت الله أكبر من مقتكم أنفسكم
[Ghafir 40:10]
.
And among the benefits of that is that the truth of their misguidance and disbelief became clear to them when they saw the punishment. The indication of this is that they hated themselves at that time when they saw the torment, and this indicates that their misguidance became clear to them on that day.
And among the benefits of the noble verse, according to the author’s approach, is the affirmation of the hatred of Allah, meaning that Allah hates. This is based on the author’s view that “hatred” (maqt) is attributed to the doer. However, if we adopt the stronger opinion, there is no evidence in the verse that Allah hates. But the indication that Allah hates and that He has hatred comes from other proofs, such as the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Great is hatred in the sight of Allah that you say what you do not do. كبر مقتا عند الله أن تقولوا ما لا تفعلون
[As-Saf 61:3]
And “hatred” (maqt) is the most intense form of dislike, and dislike is one of the action attributes that relate to His will and desire.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that a person may hate himself. When does this happen? When he sees in his behavior something that displeases him, he hates himself and says, “This is from the self that commands evil.”
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that the proof has been established against these deniers who are being punished, as He said:
when you were invited to faith, but you refused." إذ تدعون إلى الإيمان فتكفرون
[Ghafir 40:10]
Is the call a call for understanding or a call merely for notification? The first is a call for understanding, based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And We did not send any messenger except [speaking] in the language of his people to state clearly for them وما أرسلنا من رسول إلا بلسان قومه ليبين لهم
[Ibrahim 14:4]
So understanding the proof is necessary. However, if the message reaches a person, it is obligatory for him to seek understanding; if he does not do so, he is negligent.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that these people disbelieved out of stubbornness. Where is this taken from? Because they were called and they disbelieved, and this is disbelief out of stubbornness, may Allah protect us from it.
