The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “And indeed, Yusuf came to you before with clear proofs, but you continued to be in doubt about what he brought you, until when he died, you said: ‘Allah will not send a messenger after him.’”

Among the benefits of the verse is the completeness of this man’s sincere advice when he mentioned to his people what had come before.
And among them is that it is incumbent upon a person to have knowledge of what has preceded, for history is a lesson, whether in this great matter or in small matters. Read history, and it will become clear to you what Allah has decreed for His servants, and that the law of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, regarding those who came before will be the same for those who come after.
So, among the benefits of the verse is that a person should have experience with what has preceded.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that the greatest messenger sent to the family of Pharaoh after Musa was Yusuf. For this reason, the mention of those after him was omitted. It appears, and Allah knows best, that Allah the Exalted does not leave this nation, meaning the nation of Pharaoh, without a messenger after Musa, who had many eras, but they were not like Yusuf, so he highlighted the mention of Yusuf.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that the messengers come with clear proofs indicating their truthfulness and their prophethood, for this is part of the wisdom of Allah. If Allah sent a messenger to the people without a sign and said, “I am the messenger of Allah to you, believe in me, or else the Fire is for you,” would they obey him? Never. They would say, “This is a madman.” A sign indicating his truthfulness is necessary. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
No messenger sent by Allah was given signs by which people would believe in their like.
That is necessary.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that the signs brought by the messengers are clear signs that are not hidden except from the blind. The evidence for this is His saying:
with clear proofs بالبينات
Here, he focused on the description rather than the described, because the description is more important, and that is that these signs are clear and not hidden from anyone.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that the family of Pharaoh continued to be in doubt even with the presence of Yusuf. They were in doubt because Allah the Exalted did not decree their guidance, so they remained confused and continued in disbelief.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is the explanation of the hatred of the people who denied the messengers for what the messengers brought, for they seemed to have seized the opportunity when Yusuf died and said:
Never will Allah send a messenger after him
[Ghafir 40:34]
This indicates that they were extremely distressed by the presence of Yusuf (peace be upon him).
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that belief in the existence of Allah is not sufficient for tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and salvation from the punishment of Allah. This is derived from their saying:
Never will Allah
[Ghafir 40:34]
These people were acknowledging Allah, yet their acknowledgment of Allah did not benefit them.
Likewise, those among whom the Messenger (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) was sent were acknowledging Allah:
Say, "Who provides for you from the heaven and the earth? Or who controls hearing and sight and who brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living and who arranges [every] matter?" They will say, "Allah," so say, "Then will you not fear Him?"
[Yunus: 31] They believed completely in His lordship and that the Manager is Allah. Yet, they made lawful the blood, wealth, women, offspring, and land of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), because mere belief in Allah is never faith. It is necessary to believe in Allah, Mighty and Majestic, in the four known aspects: belief in His existence, His lordship, His divinity, and His names and attributes. This is necessary. So, whoever does not believe in this manner is not a believer in Allah.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that the misguidance of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, does not occur except in the case of one who is deserving of misguidance, as He said:
Thus does Allah leave astray he who is a transgressor and skeptic." كذلك يضل الله من هو مسرف مرتاب
[Ghafir 40:34]
.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is that whoever adheres to the limit and is certain of what he must be certain of is the farthest of people from misguidance. This is derived from the implication. If Allah misguides him who is a transgressor and a doubter, then He guides him who adheres to the limit, is certain in his matter, and believes in it.
Thus does Allah leave astray he who is a transgressor and skeptic." كذلك يضل الله من هو مسرف مرتاب
[Ghafir 40:34]
And Allah knows best.
