Commentary on the Tafsir of al-Jalalayn: “And those who took others besides Him” meaning the idols “as awliya (close friends of Allah), Allah is a Guardian” a Recorder “over them” to reward them “

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :
And those who take as allies other than Him - Allah is [yet] Guardian over them والذين اتخذوا من دونه أولياء الله حفيظ عليهم
[Ash-Shuraa 42:6]
First, regarding the grammar: “Those who took” is the subject (mubtada'), “awliya” is the second object of “took” because the implied meaning is: they took the idols as awliya, “Allah” is the subject
Allah is [yet] Guardian over them الله حفيظ عليهم
[Ash-Shuraa 42:6]
and “Guardian” is its predicate, and the sentence consisting of the subject and predicate is in the position of the predicate of the first subject, where is the first subject? “Those.” If someone were to say: It is known among grammarians that the sentence serving as a predicate must contain a pronoun referring back to the subject so that its connection to it is known, we say: Here, the apparent [word] takes the place of the pronoun, which is his saying:
Allah is [yet] Guardian over them الله حفيظ عليهم
[Ash-Shuraa 42:6]
upon them عليهم
meaning the pronoun, the important thing is that Allah the Exalted says:
And those who take protectors besides Him الذين اتخذوا من دونه أولياء
[Az-Zumar 39:3]
They took from whom? They took the idols, for this reason the author said: “meaning the idols” and this implied meaning is to clarify the second object, as if he is saying: the second object is omitted, its implied meaning is the idols, “awliya” is the plural of “wali,” meaning that they take these idols as their protectors, they worship them, they slaughter for them, they vow to them, and they are heedless of Allah.
“
Allah is a Guardian الله حفيظ
a Recorder
upon them عليهم
over them to reward them ”
Interpreting “Guardian” as “Recorder” is an interpretation by the necessary consequence, but the intended meaning of “Guardian” is the Preserver of their deeds, the Watcher over them, nothing of their deeds escapes Him,
Allah is [yet] Guardian over them الله حفيظ عليهم
[Ash-Shuraa 42:6]
and if He is a Preserver for them and a Watcher over them, then He must record their deeds and reward them for them.
“
nor are you a manager over them. وما أنت عليهم بوكيل
[Al-An'am 6:107]
you achieve what is required of them, upon you is only the conveying of the message ”
“And you are not over them” the address is to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), “a guardian” meaning a Guardian, so the verse is clear, as if Allah is saying: I am the Guardian over them, but you are not a Guardian, what is upon the Messenger? Upon you is only the conveying of the message, it is not upon him except to convey, as for guiding anyone or recording the deeds of anyone, that is not for him, rather it is for Allah the Exalted, until Allah said to him in Al-Imran:
Not for you, [O Muhammad, but for Allah], is the decision whether He should [cut them down] or forgive them or punish them, for indeed, they are wrongdoers. ليس لك من الأمر شيء أو يتوب عليهم أو يعذبهم فإنهم ظالمون
[Ali 'Imran 3:128]
“And you are not a guardian over them” to the end of it.
