Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : All right, "The second issue: that showing off is a form of shirk (associating partners with Allah)", there, I was not present.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : And what did he say?
The student: ... he was asked about showing off.

The Shaykh : He was asked about it, and he said, "Showing off." He thus classified showing off as a form of shirk. Since the division of worship into nine categories has already been mentioned, there is no need to repeat it.
"The third issue: that it is minor shirk"
The student: ... that it is minor shirk ... what is minor shirk?

The Shaykh : Yes, all right. Is it possible for showing off to reach the level of major shirk? The apparent meaning of the hadith is that it is not possible, because he said "minor shirk" when asked about it, and he answered, "Showing off." However, in the expressions of Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him), when he mentions minor shirk, he says "a little showing off," "a little showing off." This indicates that a great deal of it is not minor shirk. But if one intends shirk of intention, then yes, because if every deed he performs is done with showing off, he would never have a pure deed, and in that case, he would be committing major shirk. As for the manner of it, the apparent meaning of the hadith is that it is minor in all cases. Yes.
