The Shaykh : One is obligated to affirm the oneness of worship, and affirming the oneness of worship necessitates affirming the oneness of lordship. No one affirms the oneness of worship without also affirming the oneness of lordship. Do you understand? Then comes the oneness of the names and attributes, in which those who have gone astray among the people who claim to be Muslims, yet are from the people of the Qiblah, such as the Mu'tazilah, the Asha'irah, the Maturidiyyah, the Kalbiyyah, and others from the sects of the people of innovation, have gone astray. In what did they go astray? In the oneness of the names and attributes. Sometimes they went astray in terms of affirmation, and sometimes they went astray in terms of negation. The details of this have passed us by in the creed. So, what is the author's intended meaning by his saying "whoever claims knowledge"? What appears to us is that his intended meaning is the people of Kalam (theologians) who interpret "There is no god but Allah" as the oneness of lordship.
