Explanation of the Book of Tawhid-19

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"And Muslim narrated from Jundub ibn 'Abdullah who said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) five [days] before he died"
Five [days] before he died
Does this mean hours?
The student: Days.

The Shaykh : Five nights, but the Arabs use "five" for nights and days, just as they use "five" for days, for both them and the nights. He heard him saying five [days] before he died:
I stand acquitted before Allah that I took any one of you as friend
Sahih Muslim 532

I disavow
What is the meaning of disavowal? It is relinquishment, relinquishing, meaning I relinquish having a close friend among you.
Close friend خليل
He is the one who has reached the peak of love, this close friend, because he has permeated the entire body. The poet said, addressing his beloved:
"It has permeated the path of my spirit *** And thus the close friend was named a close friend"
So the close friendship is the greatest and highest type of love, and Allah (Mighty and Majestic) did not establish it except for two of His creation, as far as we know: Ibrahim, in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And Allah took Abraham as an intimate friend.
[An-Nisa 4:125]
and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), due to his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Indeed, Allah has taken me as an intimate friend, just as He took Ibrahim as an intimate friend
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 26:27
. And by this we know the great ignorance that the common people say: they say: Ibrahim is the close friend of Allah and Muhammad is the beloved of Allah. This is a diminishment of the status of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), yes? Because if they make him the beloved of Allah, they do not distinguish him from other people, for Allah loves the doers of good, loves the just, loves the patient, and others to whom Allah has attached love. So in their opinion, there is no difference between the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and others. But the close friendship, Allah did not mention it except for Ibrahim and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who informed that Allah took him as a close friend just as He took Ibrahim as a close friend.
So the important point is that the common people always describe the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) as the beloved of Allah, so we say: You have erred and diminished your Prophet. Rather, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is the close friend of Allah, yes.
... He said:
for Allah has taken me as His friend, as he took Ibrahim as His friend
Sahih Muslim 532
This is an explanation for his saying:
I stand acquitted before Allah that I took any one of you as friend
Sahih Muslim 532
As if it was said, why? He said: Because Allah took me as a close friend, so I do not place a close friend in my heart other than Allah. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has no close friendship in his heart for anyone except for Allah (Mighty and Majestic), for Allah took him as a close friend.
Had I taken any one of my Ummah as a friend, I would have taken Abu Bakr as a friend.
Sahih Muslim 532
(peace and blessings be upon him).
If I were to take a Khalil, I would have taken Abu Bakr
Sahih al-Bukhari 3656
Abu Bakr, the first caliph of the Messenger of Allah. In it is an explicit text that Abu Bakr is better than 'Ali, because 'Ali is from the Ummah of the Messenger without doubt ... and the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say "I would have taken 'Ali," he said "I would have taken Abu Bakr." In it is a refutation of the Rafidah who claim that 'Ali is better than Abu Bakr ... .
... And we have clarified that in it is a great harm, because it is a means to shirk (associating partners with Allah), for mosques are where prayer is performed, so if there is a grave in it, it is believed that the owner of the grave has an effect in this prayer, and the situation may lead a person to pray to the owner of the grave. It has preceded us that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) did not take a close friend except Ibrahim and whom? And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). As for love, He loves the patient, loves the righteous, loves the just, loves the Muslims ... etc. And by this it becomes clear that the close friendship - as mentioned - is better than love, and it also becomes clear the error of the one who says: Ibrahim the close friend and Muhammad the beloved. For this is a diminishment of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and a lowering of him from a rank he deserves. We have reached this in his saying:
for Allah has taken me as His friend, as he took Ibrahim as His friend. Had I taken any one of my Ummah as a friend, I would have taken Abu Bakr as a friend.
Sahih Muslim 532
.
"If": This is a particle of negation for the sake of negation. What is negated? In the general meaning, what is negated in the "if" condition or the answer? No. If I were to take, I would have taken.
The student: The answer.

The Shaykh : The answer is negated because of the negation of the condition. If Zayd stood up, 'Amr would stand up. Which one is the negation?
The student: Zayd standing up.

The Shaykh : Hm?
The student: 'Amr standing up.

The Shaykh : 'Amr standing up is negated by the negation of Zayd standing up. So the negated one is what? The answer is negated because of the negation of the condition.
If I were to take a Khalil, I would have taken Abu Bakr
Sahih al-Bukhari 3656
The taking of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) of Abu Bakr as a close friend is negated because it is negated that he would take a close friend from his Ummah, yes.
those who preceded you
Sahih Muslim 532
.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Yes, "ala" "ala"
Beware! Indeed, those who came before you used to take the graves of their prophets as mosques.
"Ala" is for emphasis, and note that this sentence is from the first hadith, but he began with emphasis for the importance of the occasion. This is for emphasis.
but you must not take graves as mosques
Sahih Muslim 532
This is another emphasis for the prohibition of taking graves as mosques. Is it his grave (peace and blessings be upon him) or his and others'? His and others', yes.
but you must not take graves as mosques
Sahih Muslim 532
And this is general.
For I forbid you from doing so.
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 65:145
This is also a prohibition by the wording without the tool, to emphasize this matter, because his saying:
but you must not take graves as mosques
Sahih Muslim 532
This is a prohibition by the tool.
For I forbid you.
This is a prohibition by what? By the wording, to emphasize and honor this occasion.
In this hadith, there are the following benefits:
First: That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) disavowed taking anyone as a close friend. Why? Because his heart is filled with whom? With the love of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). So there is no place for the close friendship of anyone in his heart.
And from it also: That Allah the Exalted took him as a close friend just as He took Abu Bakr, just as He took Ibrahim. So in it is a virtue for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
And from it: The virtue of Ibrahim for Allah taking him as a close friend.
And from it: The virtue of Abu Bakr and that he is the best of the Companions, because this hadith indicates that he is the most beloved of the Companions to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and if it were not negated that he would have a close friend, he would have taken Abu Bakr as a close friend.
And from it: The warning against taking graves as mosques, due to his saying:
but you must not take graves as mosques
Sahih Muslim 532
and his saying:
For I forbid you from doing so.
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 65:145
. And it has preceded us that whoever builds a mosque over a grave, it is obligatory for him to demolish it, and whoever buries a person in a grave, it is obligatory for him to dig him up, and it is obligatory for him to dig up this dead person who was buried in the mosque.
And from it: The benefits of the hadith: The Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) concern for his Ummah in keeping them away from shirk (associating partners with Allah) and its causes, because this is one of the means of shirk and the paths to shirk, and the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) concern to warn his Ummah from it. And this is from the perfection of his eloquence and from the perfection of his mercy for the Ummah - come forward, yes -.
