The Book of Jihad, Military Expeditions, and Authority-09a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: And Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah, 'Abd Allah ibn Barrad al-As'ari, and Abu Kuraib narrated to us, saying: Ibn Idris narrated to us from Shu'bah from Abu Imran from 'Abd Allah ibn al-Samit from Abu Dharr, who said:
My friend (i. e. the Holy Prophet) advised me to listen (to the man in position of authority) and obey (him) even if he were a slave maimed (and disabled). إِنَّ خَلِيلِي أَوْصَانِي أَنْ أَسْمَعَ وَأُطِيعَ، وَإِنْ كَانَ عَبْدًا مُجَدَّعَ الْأَطْرَافِ
Sahih Muslim 1837a
.

The Shaykh : "Even if he is": this means the ruler. His statement:
My close friend إن خليلي
does not contradict the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
if I were to choose anyone as bosom friend I would have taken Abu Bakr لو كنت متّخذاً خليلاً لاتّخذتُ أبا بكر
Sahih Muslim 2383e
, because the close friendship that is denied is for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to be a close friend to someone else, whereas it is permissible for someone else to be a close friend to him. This is the reconciliation. It is like this hadith:
My close friend advised me. أوصاني خليلي
, and the hadith of Abu Hurayrah:
My close friend advised me about three things. أوصاني خليلي بثلاث
. It is said: the reconciliation is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not take so-and-so as a close friend, but it does not prevent someone else from taking him as a close friend.
