"The Chapter on What Came Regarding the Protection of the Chosen One".
Al-Mustafa, its root is al-Mustafa from al-Safwah, which means the choice or the best of a thing. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is the best of the chosen ones because he is the best of the resolute ones among the messengers, and the messengers are the chosen ones. And the one meant here is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
And his saying: "Protection". Protection means to establish a sanctuary for a thing, meaning a prohibited area that prevents anyone from approaching its vicinity. From this comes the term "sanctuary of the land" regarding grazing in it and the like.
And his saying: "The Sanctity of Tawhid". Janab means side; here, janab means side. Tawhid is a verbal noun from wahdah, and its meaning is singling out Allah the Exalted with what is due to Him, singling out Allah with what is due to Him. This is Tawhid: singling out Allah with what is due to Him. With what? With lordship and divinity, worship, and names and attributes. This is Tawhid: singling out Allah with what is due to Him of lordship, or worship, or names and attributes.
And his saying: "And His Blocking of Every Path" means that along with the protection, he did not leave the doors open for anyone to enter... but he (peace and blessings be upon him) blocked every path leading to shirk, because shirk is not a trivial matter. Shirk is greater than the major sins, as it is authentic from Ibn Mas'ud that he said:
I would rather swear falsely by Allah than swear truly by other than Him
Musannaf Abd al-Razzaq 21:121
And Allah the Exalted said:
Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills
[An-Nisa 4:48]
.
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said: "Shirk is not forgiven, even if it is the smallest" from His saying:
association with Him أن يشرك به
[An-Nisa 4:48]
And on this basis, all sins are lesser than it, due to His saying:
And He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills
which includes the major sins and the minor sins.
So shirk is not a trivial matter. Shirk is not a trivial matter to be taken lightly, because it corrupts the heart and the intention. And if the intention is corrupted, the deed is corrupted, for the deed is based on the intention, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended.
Sahih al-Bukhari 1
And His saying the Exalted:
(15) Whoever desires the life of this world and its adornments - We fully repay them for their deeds therein, and they therein will not be deprived. (16) Those are the ones for whom there is not in the Hereafter but the Fire. And lost is what they did therein, and worthless is what they used to do.
[Hud 11:15-16]
.
So the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) protected the side of Tawhid with a complete protection and blocked every path leading to shirk, even from afar; even from afar, because whoever walks on the path arrives, and Satan beautifies for the person the deeds of evil little by little until he reaches the goal.
