Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: Shaykh 'Ubayd Allah al-Rahmani al-Mubarakpuri, the Indian head of the Salafi University.

The Shaykh: I have no news about him from the Muslims.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh: But it appears that the man is a distinguished scholar, and I met him during the Hajj season long ago more than once. He is one of the few scholars whose demeanor and conduct indicate that their knowledge was for the sake of Allah, not for showing off, or for trading in knowledge, or anything similar to that. I no longer remember; perhaps he was my age or older. Does anyone here know him?
The student: By Allah, Shaykh Rabee' al-Madkhali mentioned him, but we do not know him.

The Shaykh: You do not know him?
The student: What I remember is that he is advanced in age, and perhaps he is a student of the author of *al-Tuhfah*.

The Shaykh: Yes, that is him.
The student: Shaykh 'Abd al-Rahman.

The Shaykh: But I wanted to say that, although he may be of my generation or older than me, he had excellent manners that made me feel shy because of his humility. We used to sit in one of the tents in Mina, and you know how people from all classes gather there during the season. Glory be to Allah, his manners made me shy; he would not speak as long as Al-Albani was present in the gathering. I was fasting at the time, and I sent him a copy of the book *Ahkam al-Jana'iz* (Rulings on Funerals). He sent me a letter saying how sorry he was that he did not have a copy preserved. He said that, to the extent that I had looked into and read, I had not found a book like this one in terms of argument, evidence, and reliance on the Sunnah. From that day, I understood that the man is a scholar. I do not know if he is still alive.
The student: Yes, he is still alive.

The Shaykh: He is still alive.
The student: Shaykh Rabee' al-Madkhali spoke about him... Allah knows best.

The Shaykh: In a lecture, I mean.
The student: Yes, he refers to his chain of narration... like that.
