Obsessions in Ablution and Prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: From: A. S. - From Algeria, he says: Sometimes during ablution, I feel that my ablution has been invalidated, and likewise in prayer. I do not know if this is real or an obsession. I often repeat the prayer and ablution so much that sometimes I miss the congregational prayer, and I think about prayer a great deal.
A: These obsessions are from Satan, and it is obligatory for you to discard them, not to pay attention to them, and to complete your ablution and prayer. This is based on what is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that a man was complained to him who felt as if he was passing something in prayer, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 361 It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And in Sahih Muslim, from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) , from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who said: Mishkat al-Masabih 306.
By these two hadiths and what came in their meaning from other hadiths, every believing man and woman knows that he should not turn away from his prayer or his ablution because of the obsessions that occur. Rather, it is prescribed for him to turn away from them until he knows with certainty that something has come out of him, and until he knows with certainty in the matter of ablution that his ablution has been invalidated.
And Allah is the guarantor of success.
