Prayer Without Ablution

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: The prayer was established, and I was in the first row. I prayed one unit behind the imam, but then I remembered that my ablution had been broken. I did not know what to do while in the first row, so I completed the prayer with them. Please advise me on what I was required to do when I remembered that my ablution had been broken? And is my prayer valid given that I passed over people’s backs, or is it invalid? Please advise us, may Allah reward you.

Answer: Your prayer is invalid in any case;Because as long as you: without ablution, your prayer is not valid,As in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the anklesيَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا قُمْتُمْ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ فَاغْسِلُوا وُجُوهَكُمْ وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ إِلَى الْمَرَافِقِ وَامْسَحُوا بِرُءُوسِكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُمْ إِلَى الْكَعْبَيْنِ
[Al-Ma'idah: 6] ,And his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Allaah, the Exalted, does not accept the prayer of any of you when you are defiled until you performed ablution.لا يقبل الله صلاة أحدكم إذا أحدث حتى يتوضأ
Sunan Abi Dawud 60Sahih (Al-Albani)
, so your prayer without ablution is invalid, and what you did by continuing the prayer after knowing that you were not in a state of ritual purity is
a great error. It was obligatory for you to leave, exit the mosque, perform ablution, and return to catch up with the remainder of the prayer with the congregation. This is what was obligatory for you. As for continuing in the row while not in a state of ritual purity, and praying with the people while not in a state of ritual purity, this is a great error. Do not repeat such a thing. There is no blame on you if you left and abandoned the rows, provided there was a gap without crossing the rows, so you exit through it. Otherwise, exit even if you cross the rows, because you are excused in this, and there is no blame on you in this. As for continuing while not in a state of ritual purity, bowing, and prostrating, this is not permissible. This is a great error.

Question: If the imam discovers during his prayer that he is not in a state of ablution, what is the ruling in that?

Answer: If a person discovers during his prayer that he is not in a state of ablution, it is obligatory for him to leave, perform ablution, and start the prayer anew. It is not permissible for him to continue in it while not in a state of ritual purity.
