The Ruling on Zakah in Agricultural Lands
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: From Abdulaziz ibn Abdullah ibn Baz, to the honorable brother / A. S. A, may Allah guide him. Amen.
Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings. After that:
O Beloved: Your noble letter, dated (blank), has reached us, may Allah guide you. I understood the three questions it contained, and here is the answer to them:
The answer to the second question: If the lands you mentioned are intended for trade, then zakah is due on their value every lunar year. However, if they are intended for agriculture, then zakah is due on the yield of the crops grown in them that are subject to zakah, such as wheat, barley, sorghum, corn, and the like, and on the yield of any date palms or grapevines therein, provided the yield reaches the nisab. If the yield does not reach the nisab, then there is no zakah due on it. May Allah grant all understanding of His religion. And peace.
