How to calculate the zakah of merchandise, such as fabrics and the like

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A man has commercial shops containing many types of merchandise, such as fabrics, shoes, and perfumes. How does he pay its zakah?

Answer:
It is obligatory for anyone who has goods for sale, whether they are fabrics or otherwise, to pay zakah on their value, if a lunar year has passed over them along with the money he has. This is based on what Abu Dawud (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated with a good chain from Samurah ibn Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered us to give charity from what we prepare for saleأمرنا رسول الله ﷺ أن نخرج الصدقة مما نعده للبيع
, and other evidence mentioned by the scholars in the chapter on the zakah of merchandise.
