Ruling on Giving Zakah in the Form of Fabrics

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Is it permissible to give zakah in the form of fabrics?

A: It is permissible according to the more correct of the two opinions of the scholars; the good from the good, and the poor from its like, based on the value, while striving for what clears the conscience; because zakah is a form of support from the rich to the poor, so it is permissible for him to support them with fabric from fabric, just as he supports them with the zakah-eligible grains, dates, and animals from themselves.
It is also permissible to give trade goods of fabrics, food, and others in place of money, if he sees the benefit for the zakah recipients in that, while considering the value, such as if the poor person is insane, weak-minded, a spendthrift, or a minor, and there is a fear that he will play with the money, and the benefit for him is in giving him food or clothing that he can benefit from, from the zakah of the money to the extent of the obligatory value, and all of this is according to the more correct of the opinions of the people of knowledge.
