Ruling on the husband paying the costs of his wife's Hajj

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: The brother / A. A. B. from Tamir says in his question: Is it obligatory for the husband to pay the costs of his wife's Hajj?

Answer: It is not obligatory for the husband to pay the costs of his wife's Hajj; rather, the cost is upon her if she is able to do so. This is based on the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) :
And [due] to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House - for whoever is able to find thereto a wayوَلِلّهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا
[Al-Imran: 97], and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when Jibril (peace be upon him) asked him about Islam, he said:
Al-Islam implies that you testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, and you establish prayer, pay Zakat, observe the fast of Ramadan, and perform pilgrimage to the (House) if you are solvent enough (to bear the expense of) the journey.الإسلام أن تشهد أن لا إله إلا الله، وأن محمدًا رسول الله، وتقيم الصلاة، وتؤتي الزكاة، وتصوم رمضان، وتحج البيت إن استطعت إليه سبيلا
Sahih Muslim 8a
Muslim narrated it in his Sahih from the hadith of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) .
This noble verse and this noble hadith encompass men and women, and encompass wives and non-wives. However, if he volunteers to do so for her, he is to be thanked and rewarded. And success is from Allah.
