The Chapter on the Saying of Allah the Exalted:
They recognize the favor of Allah; then they deny it يعرفون نعمة الله ثم ينكرونها
[An-Nahl 16:83]
This is the intended meaning. As for them merely knowing that this is a favor, they do know that, but the point is that they know that this is from Allah. The favor is attributed, and Allah is the one to whom it is attributed, in the sense of attributing the gift to the Giver. They know that the favor is from Allah; they know that, but they deny it, as will be mentioned in the interpretation of the verse. And his saying:
the favor of Allah نعمة الله
is singular, but it refers to the group, meaning it is not an individual but rather innumerable, as Allah the Exalted said:
And if you should count the favors of Allah, you could not enumerate them وإن تعدوا نعمة الله لا تحصوها
[An-Nahl 16:18]
And it has passed us in the principles of jurisprudence that a singular noun with an attribute implies generality, the evidence being
And if you should count the favors of Allah, you could not enumerate them وإن تعدوا نعمة الله لا تحصوها
[An-Nahl 16:18]
.
And his saying:
but they deny it ثم ينكرونها
means: they deny its attribution to Allah, because they attribute it to the cause, they attribute it to its cause, forgetting the Causer, who is Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). This is the meaning of his saying:
but they deny it ثم ينكرونها
It does not mean that they deny this favor by saying, for example, "No child came to us," "No rain came to us," or "No health came to us." They do not say that. Rather, they deny it by attributing it to other than Allah, to its cause, forgetting the Creator who created the cause, through which the effect came to be.
The author says: "The verse" What is the meaning of "the verse"? It means up to the end of the verse, and it is in the accusative case due to a deleted verb, the estimation of which is "complete the verse."
He said:
and most of them وأكثرهم
What? They know the favor of Allah, but they deny it, and most of them are the disbelievers, or the liars?
The student: It is written.

The Shaykh : It is written?
and most of them are the disbelievers وأكثرهم الكافرون
, okay, meaning: most of them are the disbelievers who disbelieved in Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And his saying:
and most of them وأكثرهم
after his saying:
They know يعرفون
, in the first sentence he attributed it to the whole, and in the second he attributed it to the majority, because among them are common people who do not know or understand, but most of them know and then disbelieve in it.
What is the relevance of this chapter to the oneness of Allah? Its relevance is apparent: whoever attributes the favor of the Creator to other than Him has made a partner with Him in lordship. This is from one angle. From another angle: he did not perform gratitude, which is an act of worship, one of the acts of worship. And abandoning gratitude is contrary to the oneness of Allah, because it is obligatory to thank the Creator, the Bestower (Glorified and Exalted is He). So it has a connection or a link to the oneness of lordship and the oneness of worship. From the perspective of attributing it to the cause as if it were the doer, this is a deficiency in the oneness of lordship. And from the perspective of abandoning the performance of gratitude, which is worship, this is a deficiency in the oneness of worship. Yes.
