regarding the ruling on one who did not identify a lost item and that lost item was sold, and how to deal with the money from it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : She says, “This is Umm Abdullah. We found a bracelet at the door of our house. We asked our relatives if it belonged to them, and we told them to ask about it, and we were content with that much. If we sat in a gathering, we would ask about it. This happens, and this may have happened more than two years ago. Then I sold it to the goldsmith for two hundred and eighty riyals. What should we do with these riyals?”

The Shaykh : When a person finds a lost item, whether it is gold or other than gold, it is obligatory for him to announce it for a full year. If its owner comes, it is his; otherwise, it is his. If he does not announce it for a full year, he has been negligent. He must repent and give its value in charity.

The questioner : The amount, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : Is there a limit to the amount?

The Shaykh : The limit of an amount that one owns without announcing it is what the middle class of people do not care about. That is, the thing that people do not care about if it is lost from them. By this is meant the middle class of people in terms of wealth and poverty, and in terms of stinginess and generosity. Yes, because some of the stingy, even if they are rich, if something is lost from them—may Allah grant us safety—they are troubled in seeking it. And as the poet said:
"I am afflicted with the ruin of the ruins, if I do not stand there *** as a miser stands, whose ring was lost in the dust"
Did you understand the meaning?

The questioner : Only the first line of the poem.

The Shaykh : Yes, he says, “I was afflicted with the ruin of the ruins. The ruins are my beloved. I was afflicted with the ruin of the ruins. If I do not stand by them, meaning the ruins, to remind the beloved of the standing of a miser whose ring was lost in the dust. A miser, and his ring was lost in the dust. He does not leave the dust ever, except that he counts it grain by grain. Now, this is the last question. He says, Ibrahim... Now.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : Yes, we have no question. May Allah reward you. In tafsir, the question is only in hadith and fiqh. A question came from before.

The questioner : Umm Ibrahim.

The Shaykh : No, Umm Muhammad, who spoke about plural marriage.

The questioner : Umm Ibrahim.

The Shaykh : Umm Ibrahim, yes, now, yes, this is Umm Muhammad.
