Question: The brother who symbolized his name with F. A. A. from Riyadh says in his question: I invested in one of the banks a year ago, and I regretted it, and I sold the shares, and profits came from them, and now I do not know what to do with the money; the profit that came from it, and the principal of the money I invested in, so what is obligatory upon you, may Allah preserve you?
Answer: It is obligatory to spend the profits he received before his repentance on the poor and the needy, and the like of that which benefits the Muslims, such as repairing roads and public restrooms and the like; because it is wealth that was obtained from a corrupt earning; so it is obligatory to dispose of it in a way that benefits the Muslims; by the saying of Allah the Exalted in Surat al-Baqarah: [al-Baqarah:275], and His saying the Exalted: [Al-Baqarah 2:278] So if you do not do it, then be aware of war from Allah and His Messenger. And if you repent, then yours is the principal of your wealth; you will not wrong, nor be wronged. [al-Baqarah:275], and success is from Allah.

But Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interest
وَأَحَلَّ اللّهُ الْبَيْعَ وَحَرَّمَ الرِّبَاO you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains [due to you] of interest, if you should be believers.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ اتَّقُواْ اللّهَ وَذَرُواْ مَا بَقِيَ مِنَ الرِّبَا إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
