Is accepting a gift obligatory or recommended?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Regarding the acceptance of a gift...?

Answer:
It is a matter of scholarly consideration, and the well-known view among the scholars is that it is recommended. The person to whom the gift is given should reciprocate the gift. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to accept gifts and reward them, meaning he gave them something in return. This is because some people may give a gift in exchange for something; so if he accepted it, he gave them something in return for it, meaning he rewarded them for it. And in another hadith:
Give gifts to one another, and you will love one anotherتهادوا تحابوا
