What is the meaning of {al-lamam} in the noble verse?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Does al-lamam mean looking?

Answer:
Al-lamam is, as Ibn 'Abbas said, the commission of minor sins:
Those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, only [committing] slight onesالَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَائِرَ الْإِثْمِ وَالْفَوَاحِشَ إِلَّا اللَّمَمَ
[Surat al-Najm: 32], meaning except for the minor sins that may occur from them, which Allah forgives for them because they avoid major sins.
This means that al-lamam is what one may touch, or may touch a thing, or may desire it, and be concerned with it and want to do it, and then he remembers the greatness of Allah and remembers that Allah has forbidden it to him; so he turns back; and a good deed is recorded for him for this.
