The reciter: Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us from Shu'bah from Sa'id ibn Abi Burdah from his father from his grandfather:

That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him and Mu'adh to Yemen and said: "Make it easy and do not make it difficult, give glad tidings and do not drive people away, show mutual agreement and do not differ." The Shaykh: The four phrases: "Make it easy and do not make it difficult, give glad tidings and do not drive people away" ... are known. The fifth and sixth, which are among the most important things, "show mutual agreement and do not differ" means that each of you should agree with the other and not differ, because difference is evil, as 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Difference is evil." And "show mutual agreement" does not mean that each of us wants his brother to agree with him in what he says, because that is not possible. Rather, each of them should hold back from what he has until they agree, as long as there is leeway in the matter and as long as agreement is possible. Even if this requires us to leave some of the Sunnah, for example, or to do some of the Sunnah that we do not see, for example: some people now hold that reciting the Basmalah aloud is a recommended practice, because they see that the Basmalah is part of al-Fatihah, so whenever it is prescribed to recite al-Fatihah aloud, it is prescribed to recite the Basmalah aloud. If we were to hold that someone says the Basmalah is not part of al-Fatihah and it is not prescribed to recite it aloud, would each of us pray with his congregation and not recite aloud, or would he pray behind his companion if he is one who recites quietly, and we would tell the other to bear this, and if he is one who recites aloud, we would tell him to recite aloud, and we would tell the second one to bear this. Therefore, Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) said: If a person leads prayer with one who recites qunut in the Fajr prayer, he should follow him and say "Ameen" to his supplication, even though he does not see qunut in the Fajr prayer, but for the sake of agreement. Agreement is all good, as long as there is leeway in the matter. As for splitting up and each one praying with his own congregation, that is a mistake. And among that is what some of the young people do in the tarawih prayer in Ramadan. Some of the young people hold that limiting it to eleven rak'ahs is the Sunnah, and some may even hold that it is obligatory. The obligation is undoubtedly an anomalous opinion, and I do not know anyone who held it, the obligation of limiting it to eleven. But according to the opinion that this is the Sunnah, we find some people, some of the young people, the one who is eager to adhere to the Sunnah in the prayer of standing in the nights of Ramadan, in the tarawih prayer, in the Sacred Mosque, when they pray ten rak'ahs, they stop and do not follow the imam. Some of them leave and perhaps perform witr in his house, and some of them remain deprived of the good, deviating from the congregation of the Muslims. You find him talking, raising his voice, and disturbing the people, and clinking the cups while the people are praying. This has wronged the people, and in addition to wronging himself, he has wronged the people as well. So we tell him: pray with him, and what is established by following is not established independently. This is a rule that you must understand and act upon in your calling to Allah the Exalted and Majestic, whether in this land or elsewhere: "Show mutual agreement and do not differ."
